Dear friends and colleagues,

We would like to invite you to the 24. Ernst Klenk Symposium in Molecular Medicine on "Protein Aggregation and Brain Disease" which will be held from 14. - 16.  September 2008 at the Main Lecture Hall of the Medical Faculty of the University of Cologne.
Please find the program and the poster of the Klenk Symposium 2008 enclosed and visit also following webpage: http://www.zmmk.uni-koeln.de/content/seminare/symposium/klenk/klenk_2008/program/index_ger.html

We are very pleased to announce that Prof. Adriano Aguzzi (Institute of Neuropathology, University Hospital of Zürich, Switzerland) was substantially involved in the scientific coordination of the program. Prof. Aguzzi will also present the Ernst Klenk Lecture entitled "Biology of Prion Diseases" on Monday, 15. Sept. at 6 p.m.

The 24. Ernst Klenk Symposium will be devoted to reviewing advances in the field of pathogenic protein aggregation. We recognize that the complexity of the field mandates multidisciplinary approaches. Therefore individual sessions will be devoted to
(i) the biophysics of misfolding and aggregation, including computer modeling and aspects of material science,
(ii) the cell biology of protein aggregates,
(iii) the study of animal models for aggregation proteinopathies, and
(iv) the clinical consequences of aggregation, including progress in early diagnosis and therapy.

The invited speakers represent the world's foremost experts in their respective field of expertise, which ranges from structural biology and nanotechnology to mouse transgenetics and the clinical management of patients suffering from these conditions (see attached program and poster).

The Klenk Symposium - organized by the Zentrum für Molekulare Medizin der Universität zu Köln (ZMMK) and the Ernst Klenk Foundation (Marburg) - is intended to provide a forum for discussion of state-of-the-art research in these fields for interested scientists and students from academia and industry. The meeting is open and no registration or attendance fee is required!

The symposium will start on Sunday, 14. Sept. 2008 at 1.30 p.m. and will end on Tuesday, 16. Sept. 2008 at 1.30 p.m. For further information please visit our home page www.zmmk.uni-koeln.de

We expect lively and fruitful discussions and look forward to welcoming you and interested members of your institute at the 24. Ernst Klenk Symposium in Cologne.

Yours faithfully,

Prof. Dr. Martin Krönke
Chairman of the ZMMK, Cologne

Prof. Dr. Hans-Dieter Klenk
President of the Ernst Klenk Foundation, Marburg
